Thompson of Wilburton and Thomas Adams of Leftore were elected delegates to represent the Choctaw Nation at a meeting of the Chickasaw association in the Chickasaw nation (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday which is to be held at the Church 30 miles west of Ada. More than 300 were in attendance at the Choctaw Association, held last week at Red Oak. Those attending from Haskell County, were: J. J.

Farm Women's Club Entertains Families The farm women's club of MeCurtain met Thursday evening of last week August 27th, and held a nice entertainment at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Vernon, the purpose of which was to render a treat to their husbands and members of the family. Social games were enjoyed on the lawn by both young and elder after which the treat consisted of a watermelon feast. There were about sixty people present, the families being represented were: Messrs Powers, Sampon, Hendrix, MeDougle, Clark, Miler, Shaw, Arnwine, Howard, Woodard Self, Wm.

Miss Pauline Pinion of Tamha was a Stigler visitor Saturday. Munsing wear pajamas for ladies at Normans. LOCAL FARMER KILLED HERE BY CITY JUSTICE Letherman (Silk) Ballard, 26 year old farmer of Stigler, was fatally shot Saturday evening in a disturbance, when City Justice of the Peace, Dave Barnes and night watchman, Tom. Ary, were taking him to jail. They were making the arrest on a drunken charge and he resisted, according to a statement made by the officers.

Barnes is held in the local jail, pending a preliminary trial set for Saturday morning before Justice af the Peace, Lee Long. Ballard was shot in the abdomen and mouth and died in the General Hospital at Muskogee at 2:00 a. m. Sunday morning. Funeral services were held at the Antioch cemetery Monday afternoon where interment was made under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home.

The victim was a native of Stigler, having been born here on May 13, 1910. He is survived by his wife, Lavenda, two children Euel and Elwood, his father, John Ballard and four brothers, all residents of Haskell County. Legion Auxiliary To Sponsor Dance The American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a benefit dance Tuesday night Aug. 8th, at the Hut. The publie is cordially invited to attend.

Deputy Completes Official Audit Of County Records R. B. Billingsley, deputy under John Rogers, State Examiner and inspector, finished an audit of the official records of Haskell County this week. It has taken Mr. Billingsley four and a half months to make the audit and his reports are to typed, bound and.

Rogers and others state officials. Mr. Billingsley expressed his appreciation for the courtesies extended him from the people during his stay in Stigler. He said that they had done everything possible to make his stay here pleasant, that his relations with all county officers and officials have been quite to his personal satisfaction. He expressed regret at leaving the friends he had made during his stay here.

Stigler Boy Killed In California Accident Noah Williams, 16, year old son of Mrs. Etta Williams of this city, was killed almost instantly Monday morning in an accident in a bakery shop where he was employed in Los Angeles. Inquest was held Tuesday afternoon and the body is being 'returned to Stigler for burial. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at eleven o'clock at the Nazarene church, according to officials of the Mallory Funeral Home. He was born in McCurtain December 27, 1920.

He received his education in the Stigler schools. Those surviving are his mother Mrs. Etta Wiliams and 12 brothers and sisters: Mrs. Arvin Markham, Okmulgee; Jimmie Lee Williams, Chandler; Mrs. Elmer Stewart, Panama; Mrs.

Doris Wilson, Los Angeles, Calif; Dewey, Emil, John B. Williams all of Fort Smith; Amos (Jackson), George, Tiney and Ruth Williams and Mrs. Dan Webster all of Stigler. NOTICE All offices in the Court House will be closed for Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2.

(Pol. Adv.) Haskell County 4-H Members Attend 4-H Wildlife Camp Miss Ina Wortham, member of the Kinta 4-H club and Richard Stumbaugh, member Stigler 4-H club accompanied Marlin S. Hoge, County Agent, to Camp Tom Hale near Wilburton last week where they attended the three day session of the 4-H Wild Life Conservation Camp. Counties of both the Northeast and Southeast districts were represented at the camp and the time was devoted to the study of birds and plant Life. Dr.

In the evening most interesting camp fire programs were given which were enjoyed by the boys and girls and the agents as well. NOTICE SINGING CONVENTION The Haskell County Western District. Singing convention will convene at West Liberty the second Sunday in September and the Saturday night before. We are inviting Quartetes Company of Hartford, Ark. and the StampsBaxter Music Company of Dallas, Texas and Quartettes from our county and surrounding counties.

OSCAR WILSON ANNOUNCES FOR COMMISSIONER Native Of District; Is Interested in Better Local Government Oscar Wilson, prominent farmer of the Havana community authorizes the Stigler Sentinel to make formal announcement of his candidacy for Commissisioner of the Central District on the Republican ticket. CITY VOTES $5.000 BOND ISSUE MONDAY Bond issue to raise funds to meet requirements for securing government project through the WPA to dig wells and remodel the sewerage disposal plant carried in Monday's city election 88 to 17. Work on the project is scheduled to begin near October 1st and will take several months for completion. Approximately $25,000 will be spent and WPA labor will be used. CCC Calls To Be Made October First According to Miss Myrtle Thomas, Social Service Director for Haskell County, a CCC call will be made near October. 1st.

Applications will be taken beginning September first and must be completed by September 15th. Applicants must be between the ages 18 to 25. Anyone having discharge papers should bring them to the Social Service office when making application Miss Thomas said. SEPTEMBER 26 DATE SET FOR JUNIOR FAIR Team Demonstrations; Judging and Races On Progam (The annual 4-H and FFA Junior Fair will be held in Stigler at the Fair Grounds on Sept.

26th, starting at 10:0 a. acording to statements of Marlin S. Hoge, County Agent, Robt. R. Price, Vocational Agriculture Instructor, and Mrs.

Alba Tidwell, Home Demonstration Agent. All club members should have all exhibits in place not later than 10:00 a. m. Premiums and ribbons will be given in all classes of crops, livestock, poultry, food and clothing exhibits. Bovs and girls should start now with the choosing and selecting of exhibits which they expect to bring to the Fair.

No carnival will be on the ground but there will the plenty of amusem*nts during the day including terrapin races, pony races, etc. Other events of interest will be team demonstrations and judging contests. One of the team demonstrations to be given is that of "Preventative Practices As Applied to the Production of Livestock' which won third place in the State 4-H contests at Stillwater. The public is, cordially invited to attend the Fair and a special invitation is extended to the parents of the 4-H boys and girls and the FFA boys. Definite announcements will appear in next week's issue of the paper as to the premium lists.

Negro Farmer Again Kills Large Snake A rattlesnake 6 feet long and 12 inches in diameter was killed Monday afternoon by J. W. Booker on his farm 4 miles south of town. He brought in one last year that was 7 feet long that was displayed in the Dobyns-Lantz Hardware show window. Grain Judging School Held For 4-H Boys Twenty-three 4-H boys representing eight different clubs of the county, attended the 4-H grain judging school held at the high school here on Wednesday of last week with Roy W.

Ellithrope, Assistant Extension Agronomist, asisting County Agent, Marlin S. Hoge, in conducting the school. Boys were given valuable information as to the selection of proper seed for planting purposes and then the actual judging of peas, oats, corn, kafir, shelled corn, alfalfa, and what was done by the boys as a part of the boys' work. Bill Abbath, member. of the McCurtain Club scored highest in the judging, making 640 out of a possible 700.

Other boys making good scores in the grain fudgping were Eugene Ary, Orville Wortham, Melvin Wortham, Armand Goodwin, Herman Patterson and George Smth, R. R. Price, vocational agriculture instructor, also asisted in the fudging school. Boys who attended the school were: Richard Stumbaugh, Stioler; Clifton Berry, Brooken, Ralph Tatum.
